Villiers Island Public Meeting - March 26, 2024 (Virtual)

Port Lands Flood Protection opens 240 hectares of underused post-industrial land for development near downtown. ‘Villiers Island’ is the first new community to be developed in the Port Lands and will be surrounded by vast green spaces and parks. This creates an opportunity to build more housing, including affordable housing.

Given this, the City of Toronto, CreateTO and Waterfront Toronto were tasked with finding ways to increase density that don’t compromise the vision set by the Villiers Island Precinct Plan and Port Lands Planning Framework for a sustainable, complete community.

At a public meeting in June 2023, we shared how the planning context for the waterfront has changed since the precinct plan was approved in 2017 and some different approaches to increasing density on ‘Villiers Island’. In that meeting and follow-up survey, we took your questions and feedback about how best to incorporate more homes in this new neighbourhood. This meeting will present an update on the work we are doing to update the precinct plan.

At this meeting we will make the following presentations:

  • A summary of the feedback we received from the June meeting
  • The recommended approach that resulted from the Density Study, including public input
  • The next steps for ‘Villiers Island’, including opportunities for continued feedback
  • The presentations will be followed by a Q+A with members of the project team.

This meeting will take place online using Microsoft Teams. Those unable to join online will have the option of calling into the meeting, and a recording of the meeting will be posted online following the live event. We are also planning to present the same material, in-person, in May 2024. More information on that meeting location and time will be shared once available.

Meeting materials coming soon.
