Blog Post: Toronto Named Intelligent Community of the Year

The third time's a charm for the city of Toronto, as the Intelligent Community Forum (ICF) announced last night that Canada's largest city has been named "Intelligent Community of the Year." The award follows a year-long evaluation that included quantitative analysis of extensive data on the city, site inspections by co-founders of the ICF and the votes of an international jury. You can see a recap of ICF co-founder Lou Zacharilla's visit to Toronto last April. This was the third year that Toronto reached the finals and the Top7 Intelligent Communities list (previously in 2005, and 2013). 

The title of Intelligent Community of the Year is handed out each year by the ICF to the city or town that best demonstrates how to use broadband and information technology to create economic opportunity and improved competitiveness. The ICF pays special attention to how cities collaborate, innovate, attract investment, improve the delivery of government services and raise the quality of life for their citizens.

The prestigious award was accepted by the Toronto delegation led by Councillor Ann Bailao, Councillor Michael Thompson and Waterfront Toronto CEO John Campbell. The title has previously been held by a diverse range of cities, including New York, Stockholm, Taipei, Glasgow and Singapore.
