What's new in the West Don Lands

A new draft plan for the blocks bordered by Front Street to the north, Cherry Street to the east, Mill Street to the south, and Trinity Street to the west, and a proposal for an Indigenous hub on the block directly to the east were recently released and bring us one step closer to completing the West Don Lands neighbourhood. Delivering Design Excellence on the Waterfront: 14 Years with the Design Review Panel

Winning Designs Announced for Waterfront Parks Design Competition

October 9, 2018, Toronto, ON— Waterfront Toronto, in partnership with the City of Toronto’s Parks, Forestry and Recreation Division, today announced the winning design submissions for the York Street Park and Rees Street Park design competition.  Love Park by Claude Cormier et Associés has been selected for York Street Park, and Rees Ridge by wHY Architecture and Brook Mcllroy has been selected for Rees Street Park.

Ten Design Proposals for Two New Waterfront Parks to be Unveiled at Toronto City Hall

TORONTO, July 4, 2018 – Today, Waterfront Toronto and the City of Toronto Parks, Forestry and Recreation will unveil ten creative design proposals as part of the international design competition for York Street Park and Rees Street Park.  Five design proposals will be on display for each park in the Rotunda at Toronto City Hall, so that members of the public will have the opportunity to provide their feedback. The exhibition will be open to the public for during regular hours, beginning Wednesday, July 4 at 9:00 a.m. and closing at 5:00 p.m.

Design Teams Announced for Waterfront Parks Design Competition

May 17, 2018, Toronto, ON - Ten outstanding design teams have been shortlisted to participate in a six-week international design competition for York Street Park and Rees Street Park. Five teams have been assigned to each park and will respond to a Request for Proposals that calls for creative designs that serve the diverse needs of local residents, office workers and visitors, and contributes to a vibrant waterfront park system.

February 28, 2018, Toronto, ON – Waterfront Toronto, in partnership with the City of Toronto Parks, Forestry and Recreation, is calling on international design professionals to develop a bold vision for two new waterfront parks. Launched in partnership today, this request for qualifications invites talented and experienced design teams to pre-qualify for a competition that will seek design proposals for Toronto’s York Street Park and Rees Street Park, integrating them into a growing collection of vibrant public spaces along Toronto’s waterfront.

What Makes A Great Park?

While all parks are distinct in their own ways, landscape architect Michael Van Valkenburgh believes great parks share common characteristics. His vision for a truly great urban park is one where all these elements blend together to create an enjoyable space for everyone.
