February 26, 2013, Toronto, ON—Faculty supervised clinics at George Brown College’s waterfront campus now offer a variety of health and wellness services to the public through its WAVE (Wellness, Applied Research and Visionary Education) programs. The clinics are designed to provide low-cost professional services to the community, while giving students the opportunity to gain practical work experience in a real world clinic setting using state-of-the-art technology. The services offered include:
•    WAVE Active Living: Health assessments for blood pressure, nutrition and fitness
•    WAVE Dental Clinic: Dental assessments, cleanings, restorations and dentures
•    WAVE Fitness Studios: Personal training and group exercise classes
•    WAVE Hearing Clinic: Hearing tests, hearing aid evaluation and recommendation, consultation for assistive listening devices and hearing conservation, fitting of hearing instruments
•    WAVE Health Promotion: Community health promotion programs and presentations on topics such as smoking cessation and diabetes management

The WAVE clinics are one of George Brown College’s many innovative approaches to training and education at the new campus. Students from the schools of Dental Health, Health and Wellness, Health Services Management and Nursing will receive practical experience working in a collaborative-practice health-care environment. Working with, and under the supervision of, the college’s faculty members, the students will develop the in-demand skills required to be successful in the health and wellness services field.

With more than 3000 health science students studying at the waterfront campus’ Centre for Health Sciences, George Brown College is already making a major contribution to revitalizing the waterfront in the new East Bayfront neighbourhood and providing a stimulus to business in the area. Alongside the health and wellness clinics, the centre serves as a hub for the community, offering food services and a campus bookstore.
