Waterfront Skating at Sherbourne Common
December 4, 2012, Toronto, ON - The Sherbourne Common ice rink is now open for the skating season. Located within the south side of the park, the 920 square metre skating rink features views of Lake Ontario and the downtown skyline.
The skating rink, which doubles as a splash pad in the summer, is an important recreational amenity in East Bayfront. Designed as an outdoor neighbourhood facility, a seating wall surrounds the eastern and western edge of the rink to give people ample space to lace up.
This year, skaters can take advantage of the food court at new George Brown College’s Health Science Campus. The food court, which is open to the public, is located on the ground floor of the campus and offers a great way to warm up.
The Sherbourne Common ice rink is one of 53 operated by the City of Toronto’s Parks, Forestry and Recreation Department. The skating rink and washrooms in the park’s pavilion are open Monday to Saturday from 10am to 10pm and from 10am to 6pm on Sunday until the season ends on February 24, 2013.
Sherbourne Common is located at 61 Dockside Drive – south of Queens Quay Boulevard and east of Lower Sherbourne Street. To access the rink by TTC, skaters may take the 6 Bay bus from Union Station or the 75 Sherbourne bus. For motorists, there is an underground public parking garage at George Brown College and a surface parking lot in front of Corus Quay (at Dockside Drive and Queens Quay Boulevard). More information about rink operations including TTC information and helmet/equipment requirements are available on the City’s Skating and Rinks webpage.
