Waterfront Toronto Launches Call to Artists

September 25, 2012, Toronto, ON—Waterfront Toronto has launched a Prequalification of Artists for three public art opportunities in the West Don Lands.

The Prequalification is the first step of the artwork selection process for three permanent pieces, each by a different artist or artist team. All three art sites are located within what will be a highly animated public realm along a new section of Front Street east of Cherry Street.  The three works of art will be completed by the summer of 2015.

First Phase of Underpass Park Now Open

July 16, 2012, Toronto, ON—Torontonians can now enjoy phase one of Underpass Park, an extraordinarily original and innovative new waterfront public park.

Underpass Park is the most extensive park to ever be built under an overpass in Canada, and the first of its kind in Toronto. Located in the West Don Lands under and around the Eastern Avenue and Richmond/Adelaide overpasses, the new park has transformed the derelict and underused space into a bright, new, neighbourhood amenity.

Stormwater Treatment Facility Receives Architecture Award of Excellence

January 8, 2012, Toronto, ON – Waterfront Toronto’s West Don Lands stormwater treatment facility has been recognized with a 2011 Award of Excellence by Canadian Architect magazine.

The annual awards recognize architectural design excellence and are given to architects and architectural graduates for buildings in the design stage. Canadian Architect jurors consider response to program, site, geographical and social context, and evaluate physical organization, structure, materials and environmental features when assessing submitted projects.

Preferred Bidder Selected for Toronto 2015 Pan Parapan American Games Athletes’ Village Project

September 8, 2011, Toronto, ON—Infrastructure Ontario, in partnership with Waterfront Toronto, announced today that Dundee Kilmer Development Limited is the preferred proponent selected to design, build and finance the Athletes’ Village project located in the West Don Lands.

Request for Proposals Stage Closed for Toronto 2015 Pan Parapan American Games Athletes’ Village Project Located in the West Don Lands

June 23, 2011, Toronto, ON—Infrastructure Ontario, in partnership with Waterfront Toronto, announced today that the request for proposals (RFP) stage for the Toronto 2015 Pan/Parapan American Games Athletes’ Village project has closed.

Submitted proposals to design, build and finance the construction of the Athletes’ Village in the West Don Lands will be evaluated based on the criteria in the RFP. It is expected that the successful team will be selected and announced in summer 2011.
