Waterfront affordable housing development adopted by Council

June 10, 2014, Toronto, ON— A plan to develop 80 affordable rental homes within a mixed-use market condominium building on the Toronto waterfront was adopted by City Council today.

"Congratulations to all of the partners involved in making affordable housing happen in the new East Bayfront community," said Deputy Mayor Norm Kelly. "The approval of the Bayside Pilot Project affirms Toronto's commitment to city residents having the opportunity to live in all neighbourhoods."

Canada’s Sugar Beach Named 2014 Great Place

May 28, 2014, Toronto, ON—Canada’s Sugar Beach has received a 2014 Great Places Award for excellence in environmental design. The award was presented during the 45th annual Environmental Design Research Association (EDRA) conference in New Orleans.

When selecting a winning project, the EDRA jury pays close attention to the relationship between physical form and human activity or experience. They look for projects that “engage our attention and imagination.”

Buildings are responsible for a majority of our energy use and a majority of our greenhouse gas emissions in developed parts of the world. In the City of Toronto, for example, residential, commercial and industrial buildings accounted for 61% of greenhouse gas emissions in 2007.

Winning Name Announced for New Waterfront Street

In March and April, we ran a contest to let YOU name a new waterfront street in the new Bayside Toronto community. Over 700 names were suggested and more than 2,000 people voted to select the winning name.

May 5, 2014, Toronto, ON—The votes are in and Merchants' Wharf has topped the list for the new waterfront street name in East Bayfront. The winning name – which commemorates an old shipping wharf located at the foot of Lower Sherbourne Street – received the most votes during our ‘Help Name a Waterfront Street’ online contest.

Shortlist announced and voting begins for new waterfront street name

Water’s Edge Promenade Named One of Canada’s Best Landscape Architecture Projects

March 6, 2014, Toronto, ON— The Water’s Edge Promenade in East Bayfront has received a National Merit Award from the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects (CSLA).

The CSLA Awards of Excellence recognize the best in Canadian landscape architecture. According to the CSLA, this year’s award-winning projects are “a reminder that great design helps build great communities.”
